Mission details

• The Anik E's provide North America-wide communications in both the C-band (6/4 GHz) and higher power Ku-band (14/12 GHz), and each satellite carries the equivalent of 56 analog television channels. This capacity is provided by a instrument called a transponder. Anik carries 24 C-band transponders and 16 Ku-band transponders, with each Ku-band transponder carrying two analog television signals.
• The Anik E satellites use the three-axis stabilized GE Astrospace AS-5000 Bus.

• When Anik E1 was launched in September of 1991, it was to be the most powerful satellite in commercial use in all of North America. Anik E1 had the ability to hold 56 television channels compared to the standard 16.

• On January 20th, 1994 at 12:50 local time, the satellite ran out of control and thus all transmissions were interrupted. Control was regained at 19:00 and at 20:15 all was back into order. Soon after, it was Anik E2's turn! Those technical hitch were caused by magnetic storms.
• At 10:47 UT on March 26, 1996 Telesat lost both the C and Ku-bands on the satellite. This was caused by the disconnection of the South solar panel... After this, the satellite is limited to 9 C-band and 10 Ku-band transponders by lack of power.
• Should be relocated at 118.7°W in Apr 2001.
